The cause of death for each of the three Revere women who were found dead in their Belize hotel room has been announced by officials to be an “acute pulmonary edema,” a buildup of fluid in the lungs.

State medical investigators will examine the bodies of three Revere women who died in mysterious circumstances in Belize once they are returned to the United States.

Belize police identified the women as 23-year-old Kaoutar Naqqad, 24-year-old Imane Mallah and 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar, who were staying at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort. They didn't release additional details.

The mayor of Revere, Massachusetts, said the three were members of the community there and expressed concern over the level of transparency from Belizean authorities.
