Starting July 31, the governor's DOGE teams will start on-site inspections of county and city spending records and policies.

The first two governments that appear to be up for the budget review are Broward County and the City of Gainesville. DeSantis specifically called out Broward for its property tax revenues that have ballooned by 50% over the last four years while its population rose just 5%, and he had another event later on July 22 in Gainesville.

In the news conference Tuesday, DeSantis and his head of DOGE, Eric Soskin, acknowledged that Broward County had responded to their request for financial information — but said they still considered the local government to be uncooperative because it had not passed a resolution supporting their financial audits.
