The Philadelphia Phillies addressed one of their biggest needs by trading for Jhoan Durán at this year's trade deadline. He has already made history.

Duran could not have made a better first impression. He's retired all six batters he's faced, breaking Phillies records in the process.

Duran discovered the signature pitch by accident during a bullpen session in 2018. This season, he’s thrown the pitch nearly 40% of the time and is holding opponents to a .221 average.

The pitch was fouled off, but Duran struck out Greene to end the game on the following toss, a 102.5 mph heater that set a record as the Phillies’ fastest game-ending strikeout since the pitch tracking era began in 2008, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs. In the same at-bat against Greene, Duran also threw a 102.7 mph fastball.

Duran thought his electric entrance was too good to leave behind. The Twins agreed. After trading him, they helped the Phillies recreate it.
