As Southern California recovers from last month’s devastating wildfires, heavy rains Thursday resulted in pockets of flooding, blocked roadways and mud piling up around recent burn scars.

On an afternoon when the National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Warnings for Malibu, Topanga State Park and Pacific Palisades, an NBC News crew documented the unfortunate result of several inches of intense rain near the Palisades Fire scar.

A Los Angeles Fire Department member was able to escape a close call Thursday after his vehicle was swept into the ocean by fast-moving mud along Pacific Coast Highway.
