What is a 'homegrown' system? A "homegrown" or "homebrew" storm is one that forms close to the U.S. coast, often in the Gulf of Mexico, the western Caribbean, or the nearby Atlantic.
The next named storm to form would be Tropical Storm Dexter. The system is likely to move over land by the weekend, the hurricane center said, ending any chance for it to develop.
If it were to become a named system, it could become Tropical Storm Dexter. 8pm EDT 20 July: NHC is watching a small area of low pressure (Invest #94L) in the Central Tropical Atlantic.

Tropical wave 2: A central Atlantic tropical wave has its axis near 49W from 03-16N, moving westward at 10-15 kt. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are observed from 08-16N between 44-53W.
If sustained winds reach 40 mph somewhere in that circulation, the system would get the name Tropical Storm Dexter. By next Wednesday or Thursday, the system will be approaching the Caribbean islands.
