A lawyer for New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed confidence Wednesday that the criminal case against the Democrat is dead and buried, even though the Justice Department official who ordered the charges dismissed left the door open to the case being brought back next fall.

Mayor Adams said he was eager to move forward from the “monthslong saga that put me, my family and this city through an unnecessary ordeal.”

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove sent a memo telling the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan to dismiss the case against Adams.
