About 40,000 people are under evacuation orders and schools have shut down in Southern California due to a hazardous chemical leak.

An unmitigatable overheated chemical tank containing toxic methyl methacrylate at GKN Aerospace has forced the evacuation of 40,000 residents in Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, and Anaheim.

Garden Groves is next to Anaheim, home to Disneyland's two theme parks, which were not under evacuation orders as the Memorial Day weekend got underway.

Emergency crews are sending an urgent warning that a chemical leak coming from a large storage tank at a Garden Grove aerospace facility could cause a spill or explosion.

Evacuation orders were issued to 40,000 Orange County residents. A fire official said a major spill or an explosion were the only expected outcomes.
