As Memorial Day weekend gets under way, gas is the most expensive it’s been all year — and prices at the pump will likely go even higher before they retreat.

With the 2026 summer travel season now well underway, motorists are having to contend with stubbornly high gas prices.

"With gasoline demand on the rise and the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, pump prices are likely to remain elevated as the summer travel season gets underway," AAA said in a press release.
