WCJB TV20 on MSNFlorida CFO announces Gainesville audit during first day in office
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Officials from Florida’s version of DOGE said they’re coming to audit the city of Gainesville. Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, on his first day on the job, sent a letter to Mayor Harvey Ward demanding access to the city’s data and physical properties.
Starting July 31, the governor's DOGE teams will start on-site inspections of county and city spending records and policies.
We are going to start doing onsite DOGE inspections and audits of county and municipal governments,' DeSantis said
DeSantis' "Florida DOGE" messaging is modeled after the national Department of Government Efficiency actions by the Trump administration but are focused on auditing local governments.
The first two governments that appear to be up for the budget review are Broward County and the City of Gainesville. DeSantis specifically called out Broward for its property tax revenues that have ballooned by 50% over the last four years while its population rose just 5%, and he had another event later on July 22 in Gainesville.
Mayor Harvey Ward will cooperate with the state’s planned audit of the city’s spending, he said, but he “stands by” the city government’s efficiency.
