Many of the migrants were being kept in a detention facility that has historically held suspected terrorists. They are expected to be deported to Venezuela soon.

The Trump administration says 51 of the 178 Venezuelan nationals taken to Guantanamo Bay have been designated as "low-threat illegal aliens."

Nearly 200 Venezuelan immigrants to the U.S. were returned to their home country after being detained at Guantanamo Bay, in a flurry of flights that forged an unprecedented pathway for U.S. deportations.

DHS said Venezuelan migrants who had been detained at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Station have been flown to Honduras and will be transferred next to Venezuela.
