Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano confirmed Lionel Messi will train with normality ahead of the match against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night, dispelling injury rumors.

After Lionel Messi didn’t make the trip to Houston, the Dynamo offered fans who purchased tickets for Sunday’s game a make-up for their troubles.

Lionel Messi will not play for Inter Miami in Sunday’s match against the Houston Dynamo. He did not travel with his Inter Miami teammates to Houston, a team club spokesman said Saturday. The reason: Messi needs to rest — a decision made by Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano.

Since entering the league, the Fort Lauderdale club have only beaten the Dynamo once in four prior meetings, winning 1-0 at home in 2020. In their opening match of the season Houston had to play without Nelson Quinones and Lawrence Ennali, both of whom were dealing with knee injuries.
