DEHRADUN: The area near Mana village in Uttarakhand, where an avalanche struck the BRO workers' camp on Friday, burying at least 57 men - of which 22 are still missing - is considered one of the most avalanche-prone and high-risk zones in the state.

Following the avalanche, a massive rescue operation has been launched. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed to the site.
As many as 32 labourers were rescued late Friday night after 57 got trapped as a massive avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana, nearly 6 km north of Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand, along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
