JetBlue plans to add first class to its entire fleet
It’s been more than 25 years since JetBlue’s first flight took off, and the airline that was once a distinctive outlier in the commercial aviation space has gradually become a more familiar sight. That’s a familiar story in countless industries: you can’t be an upstart forever,
JetBlue is finally ready to help its top fliers unwind before heading to their gates. Today, the American airline unveiled its first airport lounge, which housed within Terminal 5 at New York City’s JFK airport. The space, called BlueHouse, will officially open its doors on December 18.
The celebration continued with festivities until 1:19 p.m., when boarding began for Flight 1716's 1:49 p.m. flight back to JFK.
JetBlue's first flight was Feb. 11, 2000, from JFK to Fort Lauderdale. The airline now has hubs in Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and offers international flights to Dublin, Amsterdam, Madrid, London, Edinburgh and several Caribbean and South American countries.
In 2025, about $5 million in construction projects were on the airport's plate, due in part to the success of Breeze Airways, the airport's sole commercial passenger airline since 2023. The airport is expected to get a little busier Dec. 11 when JetBlue Airline launches daily nonstop flights to Boston and New York.
