Hours after Karen Read’s first trial ended with a hung jury, the investigator whose crude text messages about her had badly damaged the government’s case sent another combative note, this time to a prosecutor in the high-profile case.

Karen Read, who is accused in the 2022 death of her boyfriend and Boston police officer John O'Keefe, will head back to court in April after the Massachusetts Supreme Court refused to drop multiple charges against her.

BOSTON - The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts has denied Karen Read's appeal to get some of the charges against her thrown out before her second criminal trial. Her defense argued before the highest court in the state last November that charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of personal injury and death should be dismissed.
