ROME, N.Y. -- Rome Mayor Jeff Lanigan has pled guilty to harassment. Lanigan entered the plea just minutes before his harassment trial was set to begin Friday in Rome City Court. He was accused of harassing former mayor Jim Brown in the parking lot of Teugega Country Club this past summer.

The current Rome mayor, Jeff Lanigan, is on trial for a non-criminal violation of harassment, allegedly for getting in a fight with former mayor James Brown this past summer at a country club.

A fire at a two-story apartment on Rome-Oriskany Road early Tuesday morning has now resulted in two deaths and several injuries.

Police are calling the case a homicide.
