Newcastle United defender Dan Burn was taken to hospital for scans on a rib injury following the club’s 1–0 derby defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Burn was subbed off in the 42nd minute after sustaining the injury during a sliding challenge with Sunderland defender Nordi Mukiele.

Burn was sent for medical checks after his 42nd-minute substitution. “He was struggling to breathe at half-time," Eddie Howe said.
