Rain that fell on Monday and another round that is expected on Tuesday could send already swollen rivers even higher, forecasters said.

With more precipitation moving into Western Washington, three rivers may once again flood: the Snohomish, Skagit and Snoqualmie.

While the torrential downpour caused by an atmospheric river has slowed down, rivers and waterways continue to rise and flood in the state.

SEATTLE (AP) — Officials ordered immediate evacuations in three south Seattle suburbs Monday after a levee failed following a week of heavy rains. The evacuation order from King County in Washington state covered homes and businesses east of the Green River in parts of Kent, Auburn and Tukwila.

Another storm is bringing rain and wind early this week to Western Washington as another atmospheric river drenches the state.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Seattle, Washington, and its surrounding areas following the breach of the Green River Levee. The service warned that life-threatening conditions may be experienced in Kent,

The NWS says a series of weather systems will bring an estimated 2 to 6 inches of rain to western Washington through Wednesday. Officials say urban and small stream flooding is possible for areas with poor drainage, and saturated soils are at increased risk for landslides and debris flows.

Drier weather is coming, but flooding effects are likely to continue for days across portions of western Washington state and northwestern Oregon.
