Because there is, in fact, a great deal of drama on Love Island USA this season — it’s just not on TV. The most interesting parts of the show have taken place offscreen, and the result is a mundane season of television that engaged viewers once they realized they could control it.

Many have dubbed season 7 of “Love Island USA” the worst in the show’s history, arguing that the cast is simply there for the prize money and to grow their Instagram followings. Whoever ends up winning this messy season, don’t hold your breath for them to live happily ever after.

Love Island USA season finale airs on Sunday, July 13, with the premiere of the season 6 spin off Love Island: Beyond the Villa premiering the same day.
