King Charles will vow that the service and sacrifice of Second World War heroes who fought and died in the Pacific and Far East will never be forgotten.

One of the RAF Red Arrows experienced a bird strike on the way to a flypast on Friday. The aerobatic display team were headed to the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, when the strike happened.

For those unfamiliar with the annual UK celebration, it takes place on the 14 August every year to mark the anniversary of Japan's surrender to the allied forces during World War II.

A seaside town stepped back in time on Saturday as it marked the anniversary of VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day. On the exact spot of the former railway station in Clevedon, North Somerset, from which people would have left to serve in World War Two, a display of restored military vehicles and equipment was gathered.
