All of us at World Health Organization (WHO) have been shocked, appalled and saddened by the conflict in Israel and Gaza. We continue to ask for access to deliver lifesaving supplies. We hope the Rafah crossing will open today. More delays will result in more suffering and more deaths. | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

The military incursion and evacuation orders in northern Gaza are driving new waves of displacement, forcing traumatised families into an ever-shrinking area unfit for human dignity. The injured and people with disabilities cannot move to safety, which puts their lives in grave danger. Hospitals, already overwhelmed, are on the brink of collapse as escalating violence blocks access and prevents WHO from delivering lifesaving supplies. We call for an immediate end to these inhumane conditions. We

Today, with support from WHO and partners, 37 patients — 34 children and 3 adults — and 39 companions crossed out of Gaza via Rafah to continue receiving care in Egypt. We are grateful to the government of Egypt for their continued support and for providing specialised care to patients from Gaza. We urge for medical evacuations to be expedited through all possible routes. Thousands of lives depend on it. | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

While the lifelines in Gaza are being cut, our ability to save lives slips further out of reach each day, as seen in recent attacks on our facilities. Despite these attacks, WHO will remain in Deir al Balah to deliver aid. WHO urgently calls on Member States to help ensure a sustained, safe and regular flow of medical supplies into Gaza. | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Famine was declared in parts of Gaza two weeks ago. And where hunger goes, disease follows. We call on the Government of Israel to end this inhumane war. If it will not, I call on its allies to use their influence to stop it. | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

European Gaza Hospital — where 12 WHO staff and 284 patients and companions were gathered for a pre-coordinated medical evacuation — was attacked on 13 May causing death and distress. While none in the evacuation group were harmed, the attack reportedly resulted in six deaths and 40 injuries on the hospital premises. Despite the high-risk conditions, WHO successfully carried out the medical evacuation yesterday to Italy, Turkey, Romania, Jordan, and the UAE via the Kerem Shalom crossing. This mo

Two years of hostilities in Gaza have doubled the need for mental health care and support. World Health Organization (WHO) is helping scale up mental health services across Gaza and has delivered medication for over one million people so far. We thank European Union and the Palestinians and KOICA Palestine office for their vital contributions. However, to truly meet people’s needs, the ceasefire must hold — and lasting peace must be achieved — so that communities can begin to heal from trauma an

We welcome yesterday’s evacuation of 21 patients outside of Gaza. This is the first since the Rafah crossing closure on 7 May. Over 10,000 patients still need medical evacuations. We appeal for facilitated medical evacuation via all possible routes, including Rafah and Karem Shalom, to Egypt, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and from there to other countries when needed. We appeal for sustained medical evacuations and a safe, timely, transparent and organized process. These patients urgently need

One month after the ceasefire in #Gaza, WHO is on the ground rebuilding health systems and ensuring patients receive life-saving care through medical evacuations. I thank the 30 countries that have opened their doors to receive patients for care and call on others to join - more than 16,500 patients, including almost 4000 children, are awaiting evacuation to receive urgent care outside of Gaza. We also call for the opening of all evacuation routes, particularly to the West Bank, including East J

After two days of being denied entry into the Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza, yesterday World Health Organization (WHO) and partners were allowed to go inside to assess the patients. As a result, lifesaving medical referral of 14 critical patients was facilitated. Two patients needed continuous manual ventilation throughout their journey. 9 patients are now receiving care in the European Gaza, International Medical Corps, UAE and Indonesia field hospitals, and 5 patients are in Al-Aqsa hospital.
