It's Wildlife Wednedsday! ODFW is currently conducting several Roosevelt Elk research projects in Western Oregon. One study is evaluating a new method of estimating populations using DNA from fecal pellets combined with how elk distribute themselves on the landscape. Another elk study is looking at the various habitat types elk are using in the Cascades during aerial surveys. This information will help develop better elk survey methodology in the future.
