Youth Fishing Passport Fishing Challengers, here is the next in our series to help you catch all 33 species on the fishing challenge list. Common Carp were first introduced to the US in 1871 to help feed a growing nation. Common carp (Cyprius carpio) are often confused for the problematic group of fish commonly known as "asian carp", which are totally different. Common carp are one of the largest freshwater fish you can seek in CT (other than Pike and Tiger Muskie) and are much more accessible.

Fallfish-ing is really good right now and will be all summer long. A native minnow species, the Fallfish, sometimes called “Dace”, lives in most of CT’s stony-bottom rivers and streams. The fallfish builds a pyramid-shaped nest of gravel, up to 18-20 inches in height. So, keep an eye out if walking in a stream during summer low flow months for these eighth wonders of the world.
