These mountain-dwelling amphibians are found in high-elevation watery habitats — between 6,550 and 12,232 feet. ⛰️ From about May to July, these toads breed and lay round, black eggs in shallow water. The eggs are covered in a jelly-like substance that keeps them moist and offers some protection from predators. The water temperature affects how quickly the eggs develop into tadpoles and hatch. The
