TDCJ is expanding its testing to continue to keep COVID-19 out of our 104 prison units. Incoming offenders arriving at our 24 intake facilities are now being screened for fevers. Anyone with a 100.4 temperature or higher will be medically isolated and treated following our contagious disease protocol. Employees and staff had already been being temperature screened before entry to the units. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 or higher would be denied entrance. All visitation is still suspended. #TDCJ

This week TDCJ began introducing tablets at select correctional facilities. The Henley State Jail in Dayton was the first in the system to receive secure tablets which deliver educational, vocational, religious, and legal materials along with messaging and numerous other programs. Securus is providing tablets at no cost to the inmate or the state. In addition to Henley, the Kyle and Kegans units were also apart of the rollout this week. As in-person visitation continues at facilities across the state, scheduling for May in-person visits begins tomorrow, Friday, April 23rd at 8 a.m. To schedule, please call the unit directly. Beginning in May, 2 persons over the age of 13 years old will be allowed to visit. Each visitation will be 1-hour in length and need to be scheduled in advance.
